Abstract

The two intellectual movements of liberalism and socialism significantly influenced the constitutional movement in Iran. Talibov Tabrizi was one of the important and influential figures in contemporary Iranian history and a pioneer of the constitutional movement. As an intellectual, he explained political and social principles in his works and presented theories about liberalism and socialism. The findings of the research show that Talibov Tabrizi sought to reduce the contradiction between them in his political thoughts by combining the two ideologies of liberalism and socialism and emphasizing their human and moral aspects. He believed that these two values are not only not in conflict with each other, but are complementary to each other. In fact, he was looking for a kind of "third way" that neither fully imitated Western liberalism nor fully gravitated towards revolutionary socialism. Rather, he was looking for a kind of coexistence between these two ideas in order to find a way to respond to the concrete political, social, and economic issues and problems of Iranian society in the Qajar era.
