The Bataeh region in southern Iraq, due to its unique geography, served as a safe haven for rebels and opponents of the caliphate. This region witnessed the emergence of movements and unrest, such that in the fourth century AH, the Shahinids movement took place in the Bataeh. By using the geographical conditions of the Bataeh, Imran ibn Shahin managed to establish a local dynasty that lasted for nearly half a century. Especially during the time of Imran, they were able to use these conditions to repel widespread attacks directed at their territory and sustain their existence. This research, with a descriptive-analytical approach and relying on first-hand historical and geographical sources, seeks to answer the question of to what extent the geography of the Bataeh and its influencing factors played a role in the formation and continuity of Imran's emirate. The research findings indicate the special impact of the Batayeh's geography on the formation and continuity of Imran's emirate. Having a unique geographical location, as well as its specific economic geography, this geographical factor became a basis for attracting a heterogeneous population opposed to the ruling power structure. Imran achieved power by adopting a defensive and attritional war, along with the influence of factors such as the weakness of the caliphate against the Buyid amirs and Turkic commanders, the early Buyid amirs' adherence to certain traditions such as chivalry (jawanmardi) among the Buyid rulers, and intra-dynastic conflicts of the Buyids such as the confrontation between Izz al-Dawla and Adud al-Dawla. Accordingly, paying attention to the geography and its related factors, as well as concomitant factors, is essential for understanding the rise to power of Imran.
