The clergy, as an important class with different attitudes, played a significant role in the formation of the Iranian Constitutional Revolution and the Great French Revolution. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to answer the question: What were the most important similarities and differences between the clergy in the Iranian Constitutional Revolution and the Great French Revolution? In these two revolutions, the Iranian and French clergy, considering that they were from the main and influential classes of society, tried to maintain their status among the people and adjust the direction of the revolution towards their intended goals, which could be their similarity. However, the difference between them was that the clergy in Iran took the lead in the revolution and emphasized the implementation of Sharia laws and implemented the necessary changes in the parliament and the constitutional law. However, in France, the clergy lost its main position due to the lack of a reliable popular base, and the laws in that country's parliament were formulated by liberals, and no place was considered for Sharia laws and the implementation of the opinions of the clergy. This article examines the dimensions and angles of this issue using a comparative method based on description and analysis. The research findings show that Iranian clerics wanted a constitution based on Islamic laws, considering the social structure of Iranian society, but in France, constitutionalists, considering the humanist culture of Europe, separated religion from politics. Thus, the role of the clergy in this event was diminished.
