The "women's issue" in Iran was first raised with the arrival of Western modernity. Especially after the Constitutional Revolution in Iran, the "women's issue" became an important concept in Iranian intellectual circles. Since the intellectuals of the Constitutional Era, as the first generation of Iranian intellectuals, were the first group to address the "women's issue" in Iran from the perspective of modernist ideas, their views on this issue are of particular importance. This importance is due both to the influence that these views had on subsequent generations of intellectuals in Iran and to their role in creating a lasting debate and difference between modernist and traditionalist views on the status of women in the constitutional era and thereafter. Given the importance of this issue, the present study attempts to answer the question, "What views did the first generation of Iranian intellectuals have regarding women? by focusing on the positions and opinions of four of the main representatives of the first generation of Iranian intellectuals (Malkom Khan, Akhundzadeh, Talibof, and Agha Khan Kermani). The research findings show that the status of women was one of the main issues of concern to the first generation of Iranian intellectuals and one of the main issues of disagreement between modernist and traditionalist intellectuals in Iran during the Constitutional Era. On the one hand, intellectuals, influenced by modernist ideas, for the first time called for a change in the status of women and considered this change a "necessity for progress" in Iran. On the other hand, traditionalists considered the intellectuals' ideas about women to "promote corruption," and this was one of the main reasons for the emergence of the tendency to oppose the constitutional system. This research will examine the attitude of the first generation of Iranian intellectuals about the status of women, based on an analytical-descriptive approach and using the qualitative method of analyzing historical documents.
